about

'M1' was created in 2015 for a documentary on Ketamine addiction for Shanghai's CCTV.

While visiting a used electronics store in Tokyo, I found a Korg M1 in the junk section for 1000 yen (about $12). The label translated to "working condition", and after testing it for a minute I heard sound come out, so I bought it, carrying it home.

When I returned home, after plugging it in and starting to play it, I realized quickly that while it did "work", after pressing the first button on the face and playing the first notes, it locked into a continuous loop of those notes. The only way to stop it was to turn it off. The same week, I received a request for a TV score, and somehow this frustrating repetition seemed to fit perfectly, and I used it, with little or no editing. The producer in charge of the music accepted it, but commented that it was 'dizzying and stupefying.'

**Please note: I do not advocate drugs or drug use. I hope that by combining music that is tender, beautiful, and yet uncontrollable, it may somehow communicate the tragedy of loss of control, dependence, and being stuck - unable to get out of the hole - the life that plagues people stricken with addiction. Stay healthy, and help those in need.**

This is not a new album, but archival material that I am making available as I have no plans for a formal release. Thank you for your support.

Note: Please always keep a backup of your download in an archive.
